Zakk Wylde

Zack Wylde is an American guitarist who was most known for playing with Ozzy Ozbourne and for founding the band Black Label Society. Zakk Wylde was born on January 14, 1967 in Bayonne, New Jersey. Wylde began playing music as a 14 year old kid while he was working at Silverton Music in Silverton, New Jersey.

Wylde has said that during the days of learning guitar he would play as much as 12 hours a day. When Wylde was 19 years old, he sent Ozzy Osbourne a demo tape and, after one audition, landed the role as Ozzy’s lead guitarist, replacing Jake E. Lee in 1987.

Zakk is known to play a Gibson Les Paul Guitar, which was known as “The Grail”, his Les Paul stood out from others because of its unique paint job. Zakk’s guitar had a bullseye painted on it and was lost for some time when it fell from the back of a truck transporting equipment. Wylde offered rewards to anyone who found his guitar and was later reunited with “The Grail” when a fan found it in a Dallas, Tx Pawn Shop. The fan received two other Les Paul guitars in exchange for “The Grail”.

Zakk was a faithful guitarist for Ozzy until 1995 when Zakk left the band to begin his band “Black Label Society”, however, Zakk returned to Ozzy in 2001.
